The Future is Now........The Solution is Here
Have you ever thought about being a pioneer and were sorry because you were born too late?
It’s not too late! Lake County, Oregon wants you be part of its future!
Our community is developing its Renewable Resources, including:
Geothermal, Biomass, Solar, Hydro and Wind,
to become the first Eco-County in the Nation.
Old Perpetual Geyser at Hunters Hot Springs
Lake County is rich in natural resources. After the loss of hundreds of jobs in the timber industry at the end of the last century, Lake County is re-inventing itself from sleepy cow towns with lumber mills, into a twenty-first century, Alternative Energy community, based on sustainability.
We are ideally located one day's travel, from Salt Lake City, Seattle and San Francisco. Lake County also owns its own railroad , currently leased to Modoc Northern, which ships to the main lines north and south from Klamath Falls, Oregon. Our 5,000-foot, all weather runway, at the Lake County Airport is among the best in the state.
We are looking for people and businesses who want to be a part of a pioneering project to build an Alternative Energy Based, Eco-Community, in the mountains of southeastern Oregon, on the edge of the Great Basin. Now is the time for you to consider your future. Where do you want to raise your children? What kind of community do you want to live in when you retire…?
Lake County is open for business…. We are looking for both existing businesses ready to get in on the ground floor and starry-eyed entrepreneurs, willing to fight for their dreams. The sky is blue here. The air is clean. We have good schools, friendly people and low cost land for your home or business needs.

Lake County is rich in natural beauty ! It is the land of many lakes, great forests with pine, cedar and fir trees, and magnificent high-desert vistas where you can see for a hundred miles! We pride ourselves on our recreation, from being the Hang Gliding Capital of the West to our thousands of acres of public lands for all kinds of outdoor recreation, including: bird watching, fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, biking and 4x4 trail riding.
Lake County, called Oregon's Outback, is a nature lover's paradise! Lake County is about 8,359 square miles which is about 78% publicly owned including US Forest Service, (USFS) and the Bureau of Land Management, (BLM) lands.
Lake County is home to many animals in the Great Basin. We are fortunate to have the Sheldon and Hart Mountain Antelope Refuges managed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Summer Lake Wildlife Area managed by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. Gearhart Mountain Wilderness Area is a remote, primitive recreation (7500' above sea level) and offers spectacular all around views. Area is 22,823 acres.
Warner Canyon Ski Area, (30 minutes from downtown Lakeview), offers runs for skiers and snowboarders, as well as Nordic trails. Regulars appreciate the family atmosphere, no lift lines, and great skiing at moderate prices.--Oregon Annual Vacation Guide 2007/2008
