The We Campaign is a project of The Alliance for Climate Protection -- a nonprofit, nonpartisan effort founded by Nobel laureate and former Vice President Al Gore. Our ultimate aim is to halt global warming. Specifically we are educating people in the US and around the world that the climate crisis is both urgent and solvable.

Clean Energy Economy
A clean energy economy means thousands of new companies, more new jobs and billions in revenue generated by solutions to the climate crisis. This is the kind of economy we want to leave for the next generation.

Personal Choices
We are already a million strong and are making our voices heard. When you stand up for solutions to global warming, you are joining a movement that will create a safer, cleaner climate for the next generation.

Adoption of Renewables
We can help break our addiction to fossil fuels like coal and oil by switching to renewable energy. In fact, with upgrades to our electricity grid, the United States could meet all of its power needs with renewable energy and support a significant portion of our transportation needs too.

Enhanced Energy Efficiency
One of the cheapest, most effective and safest ways to reduce global warming pollution is to increase our energy efficiency. By using energy efficiency technologies and today’s know-how, we could cut our global warming pollution by a third.

Innovative Leadership
The technological and policy solutions for the climate crisis already exist. What’s missing is something much more important but less tangible: innovative leadership.

What is The Natural Step framework?

The Natural Step (TNS) is a framework grounded in natural science that serves as a guide for businesses, communities, educators, government entities, and individuals on the path toward sustainable development.

The Natural Step framework encourages dialogue, consensus building, and systems-thinking (key processes of organizational learning) and creates the conditions for profound change to occur. It does not prescribe or condemn other approaches but rather introduces and expands on new possibilities.

From a business perspective, The Natural Step framework enables corporations to intelligently, and profitably, integrate environmental considerations into strategic decisions and daily

The Citizen-Powered Energy Handbook is an eloquent appeal for community and regional action to initiate an array of solutions to energy needs until now controlled by large, distant utilities and consortiums. It is a handbook for anyone ready to take the first steps towards a more sustainable future.

Boomtown USA; The7 ½ Keys to Big Success in Small Towns, there is BIG news from Boomtown! Jack and Agracel, Inc., Schultz’s industrial development firm which he founded in 1986, have established a new company, Boomtown Institute. The Institute’s mission is "To provoke innovative thinking, encourage leadership and foster investment in communities across the U.S.A."

Jack Schultz’s work as the CEO of Agracel, Inc., a firm that specializes in industrial development in small towns, led him to ponder the roots of rural prosperity. The result of more than three years of research was his popular book, Boomtown USA: The 7 ½ Keys to Big Success in Small Towns. In it, Schultz attempts to answer a perennial question: What separates the thriving towns from the struggling ones?

Alternative Energy Pioneers
July 3, 2007 | by Bicycle City, Contributing Writer

Inventions that harness nature to generate some form of energy have been created for thousands of years. This quest merely intensified during the late 1800s when enlightened scientists started worrying about the possibility of the coal pits being depleted. In recent years, the effects of global warming and the damage caused to the earth’s entire ecosystem have motivated scientists, engineers and other inventors to identify or develop sustainable alternative energy sources.

Renewables, and Healthy Buildings

The overall environmental impact of building, remodeling and community development and choices made when we reuse or demolish existing structures is very important.

The current term green building -- (part of "sustainable design") -- describes the relationship that is the use of environmentally sound building strategies that result in more sustainable development, which studies indicate can help reverse negative environmental impacts of development.

Environmental buildings start with highly energy efficient design; are constructed and commissioned to ensure they are healthy indoors for their occupants; are more comfortable, durable and easier to afford due to lower operating and owning costs; and utilize construction materials wisely (briefing PDF) helping the environment.
Smart Energy
It’s clear that we live in an increasingly energy-hungry world. How do we meet this rising demand without inflicting permanent damage to the fragile environment that supports our life on earth? What energy resources are available, which ones should we invest in, and at what level?

At Smart Energy, we try to answer these questions through interviews with the world’s leading scientists, engineers and policy makers. We discuss new ideas and new technologies from wind, solar, tidal energy, and other renewables to fossil fuels to solutions for transport. Our aim is to present information in an unbiased way, focussing on data and research, not politics. We hope to help you sift through the sometimes conflicting and biased information found in traditional media.

Passive Annual Heat Storage - An Idea Whose Time Has Come, Again, Our Passive Annual Heat Storage is not just another alternative energy idea that grew out of the energy shortages of the seventies. It demonstrates the logical and balanced application of knowledge.

Natural heat is collected all summer, when there's more of it, and saved until winter when it's needed. Instead of pumping heat into some expensive high-tech manufactured device, the building materials of the PAHS home are arranged in a special configuration to merely change the balance of natural heat flow of a conventional design.

As a result, the living environment is cooled through natural heat flow, eliminating the need for powered air conditioning. This heat is then stored in the earth around the home without the need for special equipment. When winter arrives, again, natural heat flow brings back the warmth to keep the home at a nearly constant comfortable temperature all year-round.

"Using the earth as a component of the energy system, or "earth-tempering," can be accomplished through three primary methods: direct, indirect, and isolated. In the direct system, the building envelope is in contact with the earth, and conduction through the building elements (primarily walls and floor) regulates the interior temperature. In the indirect system, the building interior is conditioned by air brought through the earth, such as in earth tubes. The isolated system uses earth temperatures to increase the efficiency of a heat pump by moderating temperatures at the condensing coil. A geothermal heat pump is an example of an isolated system."

About 2People
The mission of 2People is sustainability in one generation. To achieve this, we must make the connections between many issues, from pollution and poverty to women's rights and democracy. Southwest Desert Sustainability Project was started in 2000. It is a New Mexico nonprofit 501 c 3 educational organization engaged in creating tangible tools (skills training and work study programs) for certified building careers in poured adobe and composite adobe (advanced earthen construction). Our potential home designs include affordable passive solar cooling, biosewage and renewable energy integration. Our objective is affordability, sustainability and self sufficiency. Luna County New Mexico, our residing area, reflects third world economics. We are in the desert with depleting water resources, (9" annual rainfall) increasing border pollution, advanced unemployment, poverty, educational dropout and illiteracy. We address local and world energy and environmental issues and the need for sustainable industries. We are attaining state certification on poured adobe, a process whereby adobe earthen construction can be built in less than two weeks, durably and with longevity, dramatically increasing drying time and equally dramatically decreasing building costs.

Bicycle City is a planned, urban design community where people live, work and play. Its eco-friendly, car-free design is healthy, sustainable and animal-friendly. Why are we working on what could be the largest eco-friendly community project? For people, animals and our earth.

In the early 1990s, Bicycle City was conceived, models were built and drawings were created. Now with funding and a great team, the first Bicycle City is coming soon. Some dreams happen! We plan to have the first Bicycle City somewhere in the USA with a temperate climate and clean water, air and land. Is your state or county a good place for a Bicycle City?
